Detailed introduction

Overview

The Framed E1 to Ethernet Protocol Converter is a high-performance network interface converter designed to transmit 10/100Base-T Ethernet data over a framed E1 (2048Kbps) channel. This compact and reliable device functions as a self-learning Ethernet bridge, enabling cost-effective Ethernet transmission over existing PDH/SDH/microwave E1 networks.

Ideal for extending Ethernet across long distances using a single E1 circuit, this converter offers flexible deployment options including desktop, 19-inch 1U rackmount, and 4U modular card types. It supports SNMP network management and includes advanced loopback detection and status monitoring features, making it ideal for both deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Key Features

  • Framed 2048K E1 to Ethernet conversion: Supports configurable N×64Kbps transmission for flexible bandwidth allocation.

  • Smart loopback detection: Automatically detects E1 loopback status and disables Ethernet forwarding during loopback to avoid broadcast storms or switch crashes.

  • Fault isolation and diagnostics: Differentiates between remote device power loss and E1 transmission failures.

  • Link fault pass-through (LFP): Optionally disables Ethernet LINK output when E1 link is down.

  • Extended Ethernet frame support: Supports jumbo Ethernet frames up to 2036 bytes.

  • MAC learning & filtering: Supports up to 4096 dynamic MAC addresses with built-in frame filtering.

  • Auto-negotiation Ethernet port: Supports 10/100Mbps full/half-duplex, VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q), and Auto-MDIX (auto crossover).

  • Watchdog protection: Internal Ethernet watchdog ensures continuous and stable performance.

  • Clock modes: Supports E1 master and E1 line slave clocking.

  • Remote rate control: Master device can force the slave device to follow local rate configuration (framed mode only).

  • Multiple loopback options: Local E1 loopback (ANA), local Ethernet loopback (DIG), and remote Ethernet loopback (REM).

  • Impedance auto-detection: Supports both 120Ω balanced and 75Ω unbalanced E1 interfaces with no need for manual configuration.

  • SNMP network management: Rack-mounted version supports full SNMP for remote device monitoring and control.

  • Environment and health monitoring: Monitors device voltage and temperature; configurable temperature alarm threshold.

  • Flexible topologies supported:

    • E1 Bridge (A) → E1 Fiber Modem (B) → Ethernet Fiber Modem (C)

    • E1 Bridge (A) → Ethernet E1 Bridge (B) → Ethernet Fiber Converter (C)

Typical Applications

  • Long-distance Ethernet transmission over existing E1 links

  • E1-based IP backhaul for legacy PDH/SDH networks

  • Industrial network extensions in power, transportation, and military fields

  • Redundant or emergency communication links in harsh environments

  • Point-to-point Ethernet bridging over microwave or leased E1 circuits
